Homicide officers have taken over the investigation into a shooting which left a man dead.

The 42-year-old man, who has not been named, collapsed at a house in Brampton, north-east of Toronto, on Thursday night.

He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries a week later.

The victim was not known to police.

Neighbours said the property where the man was found had been surrounded by police since the shooting.

Those who spoke to the Canadian Press said they had been advised to stay in their homes.

Homicide detectives from the Toronto Police Service (TPS) are now looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Toronto was rocked by a murder spree in July 2017 when 18-year-old 18-year-old Reese Fallon was the city’s 22nd homicide victim of that year, just hours after becoming the city’s youngest mayor.

Officers first learnt of the shooting about six hours later at about 2100 GMT on Thursday.
