A Toronto man has been charged after human trafficking allegations were made against him.
The investigation surrounds a “dignified salon” in Toronto where human trafficking of one woman was said to have occurred.
Police said the alleged victim received payments from the owner of the business, whom she knew as Shamyl Joseph.
The 66-year-old man has been charged with human trafficking and other offences.
It’s alleged that Joseph had paid the woman to dress up, and sometimes cover-up sexual assaults on the “routine basis”.
Reuters reports that he has also been charged with two counts of making a sexually explicit video and sending it to a minor.
In an earlier statement, police had said that all alleged victims were from Turkey, and appeared to be in their 20s.
“There is no credible allegation of having other victims at this time,” police said.
The human trafficking investigation began in December after a complaint from the victim’s ex-boyfriend, according to police.
