A police investigation into the death of a 60-year-old woman in her car along a major road in Phoenix is ongoing, according to officials.
“I don’t understand why a teenager would drive up and finish off someone who was attempting to elude you, and obviously you had enough time to give her a chance to stop the car, which she didn’t,” said Robert Wittner, a volunteer at the Big Shadow community park in Phoenix.
At approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday, police say a male suspect crashed into the woman’s vehicle while running from officers. The female driver attempted to pull out of the roadway onto Cottonwood Road in order to avoid the suspect and was hit.
Police arrested the suspect the next day. Prior to the incident, officers from the Phoenix Police Department were looking for another suspect suspected of committing criminal damage to a vehicle in the area of East Camelback Road and McKinley Road.
While investigating the vehicle theft, police saw a suspect parked in a vehicle near West Rosa Parks Boulevard and East Camino Verde Parkway. The suspect, who was apparently driving a stolen SUV, fled when the officers approached.
According to authorities, the suspect crashed the vehicle while attempting to escape from police. The driver was apprehended at the scene.
