Police are investigating the death of a man who was found in a London Road, in the City of York, on Thursday morning.
Officers say the man, who is believed to be in his 30s, died after sustaining a “significant number of stab wounds”.
The man’s body was found on Cleveland Drive, around 3.50am.
A major investigation has been launched by police with the help of the coroner.
Police closed Cleveland Drive on Thursday as part of the investigation, and are continuing to speak to witnesses.
The road has since reopened.
Assistant Chief Constable Chris Charnock said: “This was a shocking crime and our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
“We cannot comment on reports that the man is in his 30s, and I would like to reassure the public that we are exploring all avenues in identifying the cause of the man’s death.”
